Chinese stilt-house
Tai O's stilt-houses are huts built on stilts in a narrow river channel and one of the most distinctive characteristics of Tai O. The original form of stilt houses is a fishing boat. As fishermen are living on the boat, the boat parking along the bank gradually becomes a shelter. Now we can see that stilt houses are supported by bamboo and concrete pillars which have plunged into the sea bed. You can imagine that the original form of the oldest stilt houses, were lifted up by several columns of bamboo. What amazing it is!
Kwan Tai Temple
Tai O certainly looks colorful and unique. I've only been there once on a hot summer day. Should go back again in autumn so I can take a more pleasant walk and revisit the places you've written about.
